The other day, I was thinking about all the hype that Melvin Ingram has been getting from the sports media. He's essentially been dubbed "The next Von Miller" and producing anything less than what Miller did in 2012 (which was amazing for a rookie) will probably be viewed as a disappointment for some. "The only thing he's missing is the big hipster glasses that probably don't have lenses in them, which totally appeals to white people and lets them know that he's not a thug at all," I thought to myself. Welp, look who has a new Twitter avatar. Good job, Melvin. By the way, we're on the lookout…
  • San Diego Chargers: Managing Expectations of Day 2 Draft Picks

    Richard Wade
    15 May 2012 | 4:39 pm
Much like we discussed last time, while reviewing the Chargers' day 3 picks, optimism isn't necessarily a bad thing and in some cases it is definitely warranted. However, it's important that fans take a step back from the best case scenario and embrace the likelihood of lesser outcomes. That doesn't necessarily mean that these players will be bad or even average players, but it's almost certainly for the best if you don't expect every draft pick to be a day 1 starter and All Pro because then you're going to be disappointed when that player has a pretty good season as part of a rotation. Don't…

ESPN has listed off each team's "biggest needs" following the 2012 NFL Draft and Free Agency. For the San Diego Chargers, it's good news and bad news. The good news is that, in picking the defensive line, it proves the Chargers roster is strong at every position. The bad news is that they might be right about the defensive line. Here's the ESPN Insider article I'm talking about, and here's a chunk of what was written by Tom Gower: If Liuget shows off the skills that made him a first-rounder, Castillo plays to his pre-injury form and Reyes has a better rookie year than Liuget did, this could…

Oceanside police say Junior Seau fired one shot from a .357-caliber Magnum to kill himself at his home May 2nd in a report that reveals details of the NFL great’s suicide. In the report released Tuesday, U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/JbDXjR) says Seau’s girlfriend told police she last saw him alive that day at 7:45 a.m. At about 9:35 a.m., two officers responded to the home and were led to a bedroom where Seau was found with a gunshot wound in the upper chest. He did not have a pulse. The report says two Oceanside lifeguards arrived and attempted to revive Seau before paramedics…

A Chargers’ team doctor has been reprimanded for failing to disclose a 2007 drunken driving conviction. U-T San Diego says the state medical board chided David Chao earlier this month, ordering him to sign up for an ethics program and a course in medical record-keeping. However, the board didn’t restrict his license. Chao applied to become a qualified medical evaluator for worker’s compensation cases in 2008 and 2010. Chao wrote on the state forms that he had no past convictions related to his practice. Chao says he answered honestly and didn’t think his driving record…

The Chargers will officially retire No. 55 in honor of the late Junior Seau, Chargers president Dean Spanos announced on Friday. “Junior’s accomplishments on the field speak for themselves,” Spanos said. “His play on the field combined with his leadership and charisma became the face of this team for more than a decade. Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest May 2 in a spare bedroom of his house, where his girlfriend discovered him. • The San Diego Chargers sign G Rex Hadnot

    admin
    3 May 2012 | 6:25 pm
The Chargers have signed 30-year old G Rex Hadnot to a 1-year deal.  Hadnot played in 16 games (all starts) for the Cardinals last year.  He has played in 114 games (93 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL.  Hadnot has never really been a star in the NFL, but he’s a pretty rock solid guard.  This was a good signing for the Chargers.

    3 May 2012 | 6:22 pm
The San Diego Chargers selected RB Edwin Baker out of Michigan State with the 250th overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Baker is 5’9″, 210 pounds and he runs a 4.5 40.  Baker is a power runner and he’s a solid blocker.  He carries the ball like a loaf of bread sometimes as he fumbled the ball 9 times in his time with the Spartans.  He also wasn’t used much in the passing game as a receiver out of the backfield.  Baker played in 14 games (8 starts) for Michigan State last year and he carried the ball 170 times for 665 yards (3.9 ypc) with 5 TD runs. …
  • The San Diego Chargers picked C David Molk in the 7th round

    3 May 2012 | 6:16 pm
The San Diego Chargers selected center David Molk out of Michigan with the 226th overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Molk is 6’1″, 290 pounds so the Chargers will likely want him to put on a few pounds.  Molk is a classic type of center as he makes the line calls and he’s speedy when leading on traps and sweeps.  He can hit moving targets in the run game.  But, he could have trouble with the bigger NTs in the NFL, if he doesn’t add some weight.  Molk played in 13 games (12 starts) for Michigan last year.  He played in 42 games (41 starts) in his four…

    3 May 2012 | 6:08 pm
The San Diego Chargers selected OG Johnnie Troutman out of Penn State with the 149th overall pick (5th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Troutman is a one trick pony as he is a mauler when run blocking.  But, he’s slow and often isn’t in good physical condition.  He played in 13 games (all starts) for Penn State last year.  Troutman played in 43 games (32 starts) in his four years with the Nittany Lions.  Troutman always seemed to be either hurt or in trouble at Penn State.  Troutman has recently underwent surgery to repair a pectoral muscle and he will be out at least five…

The San Diego Chargers selected TE Lardarius Green out of Louisiana-Lafayette with the 110th overall pick (4th round) of the 2011 NFL Draft.  Green is 6’6″, 238 pounds and he runs a 4.65 40.  Green is a good pass catcher as he is fearless over the middle of the field.  Green is a willing blocker, but he doesn’t have enough sand in his shoes to move bigger defensive players.  Green played in 12 games (all starts) for Louisiana-Lafayette last year and he caught 51 passes for 606 yards (11.9 avg) with 8 TD grabs.  He played in 43 games (31 starts) in his four years at…

If his father wouldn’t have talked him out of it, Jerry Jones would have likely purchased the San Diego Chargers when he was only 25. But how many concussions did Seau actually have in his career? His career was over 20 years long and he only had 5 known major concussions in his 20 year career, but former teammate Gary Plummer deems “In the 1990s, I did a concussion seminar. They said a Grade 3 concussion meant you were knocked out, and a Grade 1 meant you were seeing stars after a hit, which made me burst out in…
